A Lamp You Lit

Bathed in amber light

I should have stopped

once your lips met mine

A waste of a good obsession

and self fulfilling prophecy

synapses firing in neon

Begging weeds into wishes

you dismissed the worlds

that grew inside of me

And, the white flag I finally flew

after four long years

was then buried by you

And I won’t lie

you stole my line

have you lost that part of yourself?

Not one match

but nonetheless

a lamp you lit

So I poke the bear

to see if it still bleeds

the words right out of me

My offering of love

in letters

marked return to sender

From lips kissed with blackberries

poised with poison

bathed in amber light
